KSM has some of the best, most dedicated and passionate kiteboarding coaches and instructors in the world, many of whom are trained and registered with International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO).

Markus Schale, Owner

Following a decade of global traveling as president of North America's leading luxury travel company Markus finally settled down in Maui in 2008. Markus was born in Germany, raised in the Netherlands and spent 17 years freezing in Canada. As he discovered that he was not cut out for sub-arctic temperatures, Markus moved to the island and became immediately an avid kiteboarder in addition to several other Maui water sports. He now tries to divide his time equally between the office and the water with an occasional special wind dance performance when required.

Donovan Lynch, Owner

Growing up in the Florida Keys, Donovan learned early that wind + water = fun. As an enthusiastic windsurfer, he traveled the globe enjoying some of the world's most incredible wind meccas. After a decade of skiing and professional mountain biking in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming, fate landed him in Maui where kiteboarding was just hitting the scene. The idea of something new intrigued him and as soon as he took his first kite lesson, he was hooked!

    If you want to learn how to kitesurf, Kiteboarding School of Maui is the best school you can have. All the equipment is giving, you only need your swimsuit. We had Josh as instructor and he's excellent. He speaks multiple languages and he's very funny. If you like water sport, KSM is the place to go.

From the moment we first connected on the phone prior to my leaving for Maui, through three days of soggy lessons, up until I was safely back on continental turf, Josh was right there with me the whole way. His level of attentiveness and preparation were superlative, not to mention super comforting to me as a solo traveler who was nervous about kiting the challenging Kahului beach. Josh takes a sincere interest in the clients with whom he works and starts at "the student's level" without judgment or bias.
